Targeting “Cyber Wreckers”: Kim Soo-hyun’s Agency Files Lawsuit and Declares Zero Tolerance for Malicious Content

Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, has taken legal action against malicious commenters spreading defamatory and false content about the actor online.
In a statement released on April 15, the agency revealed that it filed a formal complaint with authorities on April 14, citing defamation and insult under Korean law. The complaint was based on extensive monitoring and fan reports of harmful posts, including speculative rumors and personal attacks.

The agency also criticized so-called “cyber wreckers,” anonymous creators of misleading or edited content, often uploaded as videos or shorts, accusing them of fueling cyberbullying. Gold Medalist pledged to respond with strong legal measures, including action on international platforms like YouTube and X (formerly Twitter), with help from overseas legal teams.
Reaffirming their commitment to protecting Kim Soo-hyun’s reputation and rights, the agency stated that further complaints will follow and that they will continue to take firm action against all criminal acts targeting their artist.

Full Statement from Gold Medalist
Hello, this is Gold Medalist.
AdvertisementRecently, malicious posts, comments, and false information targeting our artist Kim Soo-hyun have been indiscriminately published and spread online. In particular, baseless speculative content and unverified claims have been continuously and repeatedly circulated, leading to public misunderstanding and damaging the artist’s reputation.
Malicious slander, the spread of false information, personal attacks, and sexual harassment across online communities and social media platforms are serious criminal acts that must not be taken lightly. Based on active reports from fans and our own internal monitoring, we submitted a formal complaint to investigative authorities on April 14 on charges of defamation under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and insult under the Criminal Act.
We are also seriously concerned about the actions of so-called “cyber wreckers” who create fake news and cyberbullying content—such as edited videos and shorts, while hiding behind anonymity. As the identities of such individuals are increasingly being revealed and legal actions are being taken against them, we too will respond firmly, including through collaboration with overseas legal representatives for platforms such as YouTube and X (formerly Twitter).
AdvertisementWe plan to continue filing additional complaints against malicious posts that defame our artist and will take all necessary legal action to protect our artist’s rights and respond strongly to any clear criminal behavior.
Thank you.
